Tranmere story
Perth-born left-back Don McVicar began his career with St Johnstone and was part of their First Division title-winning side in 1982–83. He joined Tranmere Rovers in 1985 before returning to Scottish football.
McVicar later represented Montrose, Partick Thistle, Airdrieonians, Ayr United, Forfar Athletic, Arbroath and Elgin City. During a second spell with St Johnstone he helped the club win successive promotions and captained another First Division title-winning side. He died in January 2006.
